from the San Miguel Civic Improvement Association
July 14,
1902 in the Hall of Justice
Meeting called to order 8:50 pm, W.A. Wilmar in the chair. D.F.
Mahoney, Secretary. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
Applications of Wm. Rucklidge, A.L. Andrews, J.C. Simmons, and C.A.
Black, were then read, balloted upon and elected. Nathaniel Hutson,
executive committee, reported that flagpole over bandstand had been
fitted with flag rope and new coat of paint. W.F. Harney, chairman,
4th of July committee, read the following report-(secretary indicates
she files it away). Upon motion, report was accepted and upon a
motion, a vote of thanks was exteneded to the executive committee
for their efficient work during 4th of July celebration. Mr. Webster
reported that the watering of shade trees in San Miguel had been
attended to. Under new business, Mr. Webster reported that a communication
had been received from Mr. C. L. Ricard, of San Luis Obispo, stating
that monthly dues of this lodge had not been paid. Upon motion,
Mr. Webster was ordered to supply San Mateo with advertising matter
of San Miguel. Upon motion the President appointed G. Webster, R.L.
Perry and D. F. Mahoney, committee of three, to prepare advertising
material most suitable to impress immigrants and others, of the
advantages of San Miguel. Upon motion of Mr. Webster, Mrs. Woodruff
was added to this committee making it a committee of four. Upon
motion, it was ordered the Board of Trustees be requested to act
as a committee to take necessary steps to procure a high school
for San Miguel. The following bills were presented and ordered paid:
San Miguel Messenger: to Dodgers Health Com. $2.00, and Card Notices,
Special Meeting $.50; E.D. Swarthout for painting of flagpole $5.00;
to T. Garcia for watering of trees $1.00; to S.T. Campbell for 4
in hand $7.50; to Executive Committee for balance due for fixing
flagpole $9.00. Upon motion this club was ordered to communicate
with Board of Trade - San Luis Obispo - and ascertain whether or
not they have taken any action in payment of claims for street sprinkling.
Upon motion, it was then ordered that in case Secretary, S.L.O.
Board of Trade, should report no action in this matter, that Executive
Committee ofthis club have power to act and see that claims are
pushed with vigor. Following are receipts of the evening: W.A. Wilmar
$.50; G. Webster $.50; L.D.Murphy $.50; E.D. Swarthout $.50; Nathaniel
Hutson$.50; Charles Miller $.50; W.N. French $.50; JakeDaffner $.50;
J.C. Simmons $.75; J.E. $.50; D.F.Mahoney $.50; C.A. Black $.50.
4th of July Committee $29.65. Total receipts of evening: $36.15.
