The Ranch Honky Tonk Opens!

The Ranch opens in downtown San Miguel
Photos of The Ranch Restaurant and Honkey Tonk at 1285 Mission Street
Marty and Sheila Elisarraras and family realized their dream to open The Ranch Restaurant and Honky Tonk in downtown San Miguel on Friday, October 24th. The family has worked long hours to completely renovate the neglected building by refinishing the original wood floor, installing a new roof, revamping the foundation and preserving the historical bank vault that the notorious Jesse James gang once tried to rob (as local lore tells it) and failed. The Elisarraras family has installed tanks for their own micro-brewery, an 80 foot wine and beer bar, outdoor tiki style patio and a sound stage ready for live music performances including Marty Rene and the Regulators.
The Ranch menu includes a full range of delicious fare including appetizers, steak, baby back ribs, hamburgers, oysters and scallops.
For more info visit The Ranch's website where you can listen to a jingle Marty composed and sings.

Eileen Rogers was honored at the October San Miguel School Board meeting with a special dedication of the new trophy case in her name. The San Miguel Lions presented Mrs. Rogers with a brass plaque engraved with her name to be installed on the case.
Eileen Rogers has been a dedicated teacher, Athletic Director and coach at Lillian Larsen school for nearly thirty years. She organizes the annual Buzz Marathon and actively fund raises to keep and enhance sports programs at the school. Athletic programs at the school include; cross country, track and field, flag football, volleyball, basketball and golf. Eileen was once a contender for the U.S. Olympic track team as a young teen. She has a keen interest and knowledge of sports medicine. Mrs. Rogers is a strong advocate of asset building and continues to be a strong role model and inspiration to the many students who have been under her caring instruction.
Brad Forde of Butthead Builders
recently finished building the two new award and trophy cases for Lillian Larsen School. The cases are installed in the foyer of the Don Wolf Recreation Center and filled with past sports trophies. North County Glass donated the glass and Brad donated his labor, lumber and brackets to build the cases.
The project was organized by parent Susan Moore and physical education teacher Eileen Rogers. San Miguel teacher Jill Heilmann held a school art contest to create the backdrop to the handsome new case. Matthew Roberson won the contest with his drawing of a hornet, the school mascot, and also did the final painting with help from Mrs. Heilmann and friends.

Drainage Construction Update 12/08
Update on the storm drain project in San Miguel:
The County is concluding a phase of the work with Papich Construction installing the pipe from the Salinas River to "N" Street along with three manholes and three drop inlets (allowing for surface runoff along the edge of the road to enter into the pipe rather than stand in puddles until it evaporated). Unfortunately the resurfacing of River Road will be limited to the area directly over the pipe.
The County entered in to a $250,000 contract with fiber optic companies to raise their lines adjacent to the railroad tracks on River Road between Mission Street and "N" Street to allow the County to enter in to the next phase of culvert work which is the boring of 300 feet of concrete pipe under the railroad tracks once money can be appropriated. The road closure necessary for the work resulted in a dramatic drop in revenue for the Deli on the corner.
Once that phase is complete the culvert will be extended across Mission Street and up 14th Street to the alley. In conjunction with the work 14th Street will be reconstructed and the horrible dip in the road at Mission Street will be eliminated.
