Sharing Books with Children

Children read at the San Miguel library
Children enjoy their book bags at the San Miguel Library
Raising a Reader is a program funded by SLO Community Foundation and the Orfalea Foundation.  It is  national proven early literacy program that engages parents in "book sharing" with children young children.  We implemented the program this year in the two state preschool programs at Lillian Larsen.
The children  checked out Red book bags containing professionally selected books (4) to take home for the week.  There was also a DVD in the bag that gave the parents tips on "sharing" the books with their children.
On Thursday at the library the children who are entering Kindergarten in the fall received completion certificates and  their own blue book bags to carry books checked out from the library.  Many of the children also received their own library cards.
