Sagebrush Day Parade

Dean Smith and Mary Kalvans served as parade judges as Dean announced the parade entries as they filed past the announcer's stand. This year the sidewalks were "missing" as new ones are currently under construction. |

Elkhorn's Sagebrush fillies wait in the shade before the parade starts |
Weather was quite warm, reaching 100 degrees by the afternoon! Onlookers for the parade sought out all available shade trees and awnings to watch the parade. The Elkhorns' Sagebrush Fillies won the parade's 1st place prize. |

John Shuder built a miniature conestoga wagon for his 3 year old grandson. His wife Kathy sewed the wagon cover. John towed the cute wagon on its virgin voyage as a parade entry. |

Heritage Oaks Bank employees and their families gather before the parade starts |
Employees posed in front of the new Heritage Oaks Bank building under construction on Mission St. The group wore orange "Under Construction" t-shirts and some carried shovels while marching to their H-O-B cadence. The new bank will be the 1st bank to do business in San Miguel since the turn of the 20th Century! |

Camp Roberts Historical Museum drove their WWII Military Jeep in the parade. Afterwards the Museum hosted a booth for folks to take a closer look at the jeep and to promote the Camp Roberts Open House and the Museum's drawing for a remote controlled M-1 Tank. |

Several entries from the Golden State Classics Car Club lined Mission St. for the parade. A 1958 Chevy Impala driven by Jim Stainbrook won 1st place in the parade car division. Bud Wimer won 2nd place with his Model A. Both Jack Stringham's 1953 Buick and Doug and Geri Jensen's 1965 Mustang received 3rd place ribbons. |
The Friends of the San Miguel Library awarded trophies for community members going "Above and Beyond" to the San Miguel Fire Dept, Meg Brooks, John Green and Jani Meyers. Mary Kalvans did all of the artistic etching work on the trophies. |
