San Miguel Teacher
of the Year |

Laura Learned |
Laura Learned was named the San Miguel teacher of the Year on Wednesday, May 27th for the 2010-2011 school year.
"I am very honored and humbled by this great honor. I feel blessed to work with the teachers and staff in the San Miguel School District. They are wonderful colleagues and friends and I thank them all for this great honor. This is my fourteenth year working in the San Miguel School District. I have worked 12 at the Lillian Larsen site and the first two years that Cappy Culver was open at that site. I have taught a lot of different things and feel fortunate to have had that opportunity. I was hired as the music specialist at the school, taught 8th grade Literature and Language arts, Co-taught 7th grade Language Arts with Mrs. Darrow, 7th grade science, 4th, 5th, 4/5, 3/4, and my current assignment in third grade. I have been involved in the community as well at my church leading a band, and other church related "jobs". Again I am honored that the district has named me teacher of the year."
Laura Learned is nominated to be Teacher of the Year for many reasons.... Her energy is unending, and in fact this year she has voluntarily piloted the recess before lunch program giving up her lunch to ensure that her students have the opportunity to play before eating. Students stay after school in her classroom everyday for tutoring that she freely provides. Laura's sense of selflessness enhances the quality of education for our students and our District.
Not only does Laura give her time and energy to the students but she also is the Secretary / Treasurer for the Teachers Association. She serves on the negotiation team and is the State Council alternate.... This all takes time on top of teaching. She is greatly appreciated and deserves recognition for her dedication to the teachers and students of San Miguel School District. - Nomination written by Mary Strobridge and Nicole Johnson (abbreviated for posting) |
