A hearing to consider changing the land use category of approximately 550 acres by San Miguel Ranch will be held with the SLO County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, December 8th at 1:30 pm. The Planning Commission denied the project which is now going to the Supervisors.
The requested amendment to the Salinas River Area Plan and the Land Use Element of the County General Plan would change the agriculture land use category to various residential, commercial, recreation and open space land use categories and expand the San Miguel Urban Reserve Line and Urban Service Line to include the site. The General Plan Amendment, if approved, would allow construction of residential units, commercial space, improvements to the interchange at Mission St. and Highway 101 known as the South Camp Roberts over head, construction of a road connection to the residential subdivision to 10th street, off-site infrastructure improvements, including extensions of water lines and wastewater service lines. In addition, this project would require annexation of the site into the San Miguel CSD and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant.
The proposed San Miguel Ranch is located on 550 acres northwest of San Miguel, between the town and the Camp Roberts military base.
The developer, in response to impacts identified in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is proposing to voluntarily reduce the size of the project from 550 acres to 205 acres. The remaining 345 acres would remain in agriculture.  Impacts associated with kit fox, traffic, agriculture and Camp Roberts would likely be reduced for the smaller project. Christmas Trees Benefit Humane Society

Fresh cut Christmas trees have arrived at the Weekend Gardener lot in downtown San Miguel.  The trees are beautiful this year with a choice of Noble Fir and Douglas Fir.  Profits from sales of the trees will be donated to the North County Humane Society.

Parade entries, craft booths, and food vendors are wanted for the 18th Annual San Miguel Electric Light Parade on Saturday, December 19th. All parade entries must be lighted with the parade starting at 5:30 pm in downtown San Miguel. The Craft Bazaar and food booths start at 2 pm next to the fire station.  Kids are invited to meet Santa at the Christmas party held at the San Miguel Fire Station immediately following the parade. 
Interested parties are invited to attend the next parade planning meeting on December 14th at 6 pm at the San Miguel Fire station. Please plan now to make this our best parade yet!

Those lining the parade route on Mission street get to enjoy seeing the parade TWICE as the entries turn around by Mission San Miguel and come back to their starting point. Ruth Elvin wrote a poem inspired by this fact called, "Twice Down Mission Street."
The parade is sponsored by Friends of the San Miguel Library, San Miguel Volunteer Firefighters, Native Sons of the Golden West, San Miguel Lions Club, and the San Miguel Resource Connection.  More sponsors are needed and welcomed!

The Masters At Their Trade Holiday Recital will be held on Tuesday, December 15th at 7PM in the Lillian Larsen Cafeteria. The ASL class will hold their recital at Cappy Culver School on December 16th. Family and friends along with interested community members  are invited to this special event which focus’ on both individual and group performances. 
At Lillian Larsen, the Melodies choral group will be singing four or five holiday songs featuring student solos.  The piano keyboarding class will perform musical numbers.  Ann Grandados, the music teacher stated, " I know this will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to shine!  The classes are very excited to show what they have learned."

The main symptoms of H1N1 flu are the same as any other type of viral flu infection – fever (usually over 100° F), chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue. Some people also have diarrhea and vomiting. If you develop flu-like symptoms, you should stay home from work or school. You can return after your fever has been gone for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Most people are able to recover at home. You should get plenty of rest and fluids like water and juices. You can take acetamophen or ibuprofen for fever, body aches and headaches, but be sure you follow directions to ensure you aren’t taking too much.
